The association « L'art et la Manière » (Ways and Means) was founded in 1995 by a group of artists and musicians. With a cultural and artistic goal, our main activities are :
-Collective exhibitions outdoors : « La Place aux Peintres » (The Square of the Painters)
-Year-round classes : oil painting and drawing lessons during throughout the year
-Intense courses on demand, lasting 1 to 3 days
Between Marseille, Aix en Provence and Toulon, the association has it's workshop at the entrance of Cassis where a parking lot is guaranteed.
Our exhibitions : since 1995, we have organized 87 exhibtions « Place aux Peintres » (registered trademark at the INPI) at Baragnon Square, in Cassis. Numerous artists made their first exhibitions thank to « Place aux Peintres ». Today, we can meet some of them again in galeries and in great exhibits, national or international displays, and, of course, still present at the « Place aux Peintres » in Cassis, from April to September.
Our workshop was created in 1997. It has built itself a solid reputation of seriousness and competence. The teaching is a question of generosity. Being a good painter isn't enough to be a good professor. Working in a pleasant atmosphere is essential and it depends usually on whom animates the course.
When one decides to start painting, to dive into this artistic universe, one should expect the best from their professor. The principal concern of your professor is that you leave with the sentiment of having learned something, and as the students say : « we don't see things the same way anymore ».
Our courses were recommended by the guide « Lonely Planet » in 2007 (they may still be). Several nationalities come to our courses which, even though they are intense, always take place in a joyful and pleasant atmosphere.
The content is equal to the regular lessons, plus the work on the pattern.
These courses allows anyone to learn, progress but also to see Cassis from a new angle, off the beaten track.
Throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, Cassis has welcomed great masterful painters. Derain, Picabia, Signac, Camoin, Verdilhan, Monticelli, Cazille, Guidon...
